Shortage On Cement

October 18th 2005, Aruba.

ORANJESTAD-Bonaire's construction sector is completely paralysed due to
a lack of cement. A new shipment of cement was to arrive on the island
during the weekend but was cancelled at the last moment. The cement
stocks on the islands of Aruba and Curacao are rapidly decreasing.
Therefore both islands can not give Bonaire a helping hand.

Construction companies in Bonaire are desperately looking into other
options in getting cement fast to the island. The construction sector hopes
on the arrival of a new shipment before the end of this month. If that is
not the case the sector will have to deal with the consequences
of sending construction workers home while they will still receive their
salaries.

At present many homes are being constructed in Bonaire while many
major projects are presently ongoing on the islands of Aruba, Curacao
and St. Maarten.
