We were schedule to go to the Tam back at the end of April & bumped to end of May then again to August, when we finally managed to go. Did the home Pixel test about 10days before just as an FYI, then self quarantined until our official tests we took on the Thursday before. We had to drive 3 1/2 hrs each way to a Walgreens in OH as that was the only place we were sure to have our results in time, got our results 45mins after taking the test!

Flew AA out of Pittsburgh via Miami, all flights good & arrived in Aruba early as our flight was maybe 1/2 capacity so boarded quickly & took off early. Immigration was quick & bags arrived shortly after we got to the baggage claim area, then we had to get into the screening line which was long! Probably took us about 1 hr to work our way through the line, first getting our bags screened then to have our test results checks (they ask to see the actual results not just see your green (ok to board) check mark, then a couple health questions before out the door. Taxis waiting & we were on our way to the Divi, it was great to be back :D . Our taxi driver (Rudy) said he was happy to have us back & Aruba was glad to have tourists back. At the hotel they had us use hand sanitizer then check our temp, did this each time we left the resort & returned.
We were initially booked into the Tam but as the bookings are so low they moved everyone to the Divi & they are doing major renovations at the Tam. We took a walk over & they have totally gutted about 4 blocks of rooms, they are building the rooms out by about 2-3’ & from looking at a complete section the rooms are going to be beautiful. They claim to be opening the Tam in September but I highly doubt that!

The beach at the Divi was super quiet, no getting up at 5am to get a palapa  A couple days is looked busier but I think that is because there were a couple of wedding parties in, most of the time we hardly saw anyone. We ate what used to be the buffet & now is their live cooking stations, could use a little more organization as there were time we were standing around waiting for someone to notice we were there. We did miss the buffet where you can have a little of this & a little of that but it was a good solution. There are a lot of wait staff as everyone for the Tam is working at the Divi, most were very happy to be back at work. When we go to breakfast we asked for hot water (we bring our own teabags), 2 glasses of milk & for them to fill a bottle we had with milk so we can make tea in our room, for our first week they were happy to do it. Then our second week one of the women who normally works the Tam said we had to get our own milk inside, as that was better!! Really?! At the Tam she was always standing around so I guess she didn’t want to work at the Divi either.

We did take a Jeep tour with DePalm as the Divi gave us a $200 credit to use on either a tour, car rental, golf, or Fusion restaurant. It was the full day tour that went to California lighthouse, Alto Vista chapel, Ayo rocks, Murano Glass, donkey sanctuary, San Nicolas murals, & finishing at baby beach. It was a great trip, they had us well spaced on the Jeep & Roland was a great tour guide. I do have to give special mention to Murano glass & art studio, they were our lunchtime stop (great food) before we ate they did a demonstration of their glass making & talked about the process which was very interesting. The glass artist made a squid from glass & we purchased it as our trip souvenir, they delivered it to our hotel the following day as they had to let it cool properly. Highly recommend stopping.

Most of the rest of our time there was spend on the beach either at the Divi or visiting with friends who live there & we met up at Reflextions beach.

Our trip home was a little more eventful, got to the airport early but as it was super quiet we were through to the airport gates quickly. We did notice that going through US immigration they didn’t ask for our passports but did pictures/facial recognition instead.
The incoming plane arrived early so figured we would be on our way early, then just before boarding they announced there was a maintenance issue & should start boarding soon. Just over an hour late we were on our way but we had now missed our connection in Miami, had to stand in line for almost an hour to get our hotel & food vouchers. We chose to stay at the airport hotel as we had no clue what any of the hotels are like & figured that would make things easier in the morning, big mistake! Their website showed beautiful rooms but the room we good was very dated & felt like the kind of place you don’t want to leave anything of value so we quickly ran to Subway for dinner to go.

Next morning we got the 6am flight out to Charlotte then on the Pittsburgh.

We were happy to be home but already missing the beach. Already planning our next trip.
