Unfortunately, far from uneventful :(

First flight a mechanical issue that only took about 20 mins to fix. When we landed in Miami our gate had been taken leaving us a good 15-20 mins waiting for a new gate.

That doesn't seem bad, but with a 65 minute connection and arriving at D20 and needing to get to D43 was a horror. Those gates in Miami are spread out. No way we could make it...we walked about 6 gates and finally got a golf cart to assist us. Our names are being called for final boarding call. We got there just as they were ready to close the doors.

Needless to say the luggage did not make it. A very tense first day of travel.

Hoping to have it delivered sometime this afternoon - early evening. It could be worse I know but stressful nevertheless.

The real issue is the short connection time that AA has for these flights which have us scramble under normal circumstances to get there with only 35 minutes to spare to get to the gate with boarding occurring 30 minutes prior to taking off. It usually works out, but this time no and probably again in the future.

Lesson learned - note to self.... to do a better job with one of the carry ons. This trip was unique in that I had fragile gifts and surprise party supplies that took precedence. Never again. lol

That was a stressful first day Jo-Ann; hopefully your luggage shows up soon.

Well the good news is you both are there. I hope your bathing suits were in your carry ons.
Your story of Miami airport solidifies why I will never go through that place or fly AA again. We used to fly AA but stopped in San Juan to connect for a cold hot dog and a warm beer.
Enjoy your trip and hope you get your luggage.

It arrived at 5pm......We used to like San Juan a lot for connections back in the day too. Back then we used AA all the time. Service just seemed a lot better/reliable. I much prefer a 2 hr layover to give that little extra time....but not something I can control.

My choices are limited...I was cursing SW for dropping the non stop flight that we got spoiled with. Before that Air Tran had the non stops.

This could have been so much worse...I had visions of calling Ann or Judi for suggestions where to go to buy stuff and not have to spend thousands to put a wardrobe together that would probably not be of my choosing.....lol.

We can relax now. Thanks for the good wishes.

Happy to hear you got your luggage.
Jo-Ann are you near Fort Lauderdale? Jet Blue has no stops from there. You do live in Florida right? I can't seem to remember.

We are in The Villages and an hour from MCO...Sanford is about an hour too but neither one with non stops. Ft Lauderdale would be too long of a drive for Neil 3 1/2 hrs.

If luggage is lost AFTER the trip and you are home, that at least is a lot less stressful. PIA for sure but the stress level goes WAY down as that happened last year with SW.

Thanks for the info though.
