Cruise Tourism Breaks A New Record In 2009
January 13th 2009, Aruba.
ORANJESTAD-Aruba received a record number of 606,970 cruise arrivals during 2009 in comparison to 556,090 cruise arrivals in 2008, an increase of 9.2 percent. The previous record dates back to 2006 with a total number 590,350 cruise passengers. The above mentioned number of cruise arrivals excludes the number of onboard crew members who came off the cruise vessel.
According to the report of BREA (Business Research and Economic Advisors), a cruise passenger spent on average US$91.77 on the island. Cruise tourism has actually generated money for ports and businesses in Aruba and the Caribbean despite poor economic conditions worldwide.
Cruise Tourism Authority Aruba is expecting 2010 to be another record breaking year in terms of the number of cruise arrivals. Carnival Cruises has confirmed it will call back to Aruba in the winter of 2010 which will boost the number of arrivals considerably.
