Nine Percent Of Aruba's Electrical Power Output Will Be Clean By 2010

October 8th 2008, Aruba.

Aruba to decrease its dependence on oil for energy
production, makes first step towards clean energy

BALASHI-The Director of the Water and Energy Plant
(WEB Aruba N.V.), Jossy Lacle has signed a power
purchase agreement with a European joint venture
that will be in charge of the construction and
operation of a wind farm in the north-eastern section
of the island. The wind farm will be located in Vader
Piet (north of San Nicolas), near the boarder of
Arikok National Park.

The park will consist out of 10 wind turbines
producing 18 megawatt of clean energy. That is
between 6 to 9 percent of the total electrical power
output of WEB Aruba NV. Each wind turbine will
measure approximately 200 feet in height, and the
rotor diameter is roughly 165 feet.

Henk Huttink, Bright Company, and the firm Festas
have formed a joint venture to have the park
constructed. The joint venture will be in charge of
the maintenance and operation of the wind farm once
it is completed. WEB will purchase the energy
produced at the wind farm from the joint venture, and
sell that energy through ELMAR to the consumers.

Presently the joint venture is seeking finances to
have the wind farm constructed. To get the finances
necessary is a challenge given the present credit
crisis, says Lacle.

The intention is to start construction of the wind farm
at the beginning of 2009, and to have it operational
at the beginning of 2010. The construction time frame
takes a delay period of project into account. Without
the delay the windmill park will be operational at the
end of 2009.
