Illegals


October 25th 2005, Aruba.


NOORD-Authorities of Guarda Nos Costa (Guard Our Coast) detained 5
illegals on Tuesday. The authorities in charge of searching and patrolling
the coast of the island for illegals stopped at an ongoing housing project
in Rooi Santo for control on status. Upon arrival 4 construction workers
ran immediately but were caught and arrested by authorities. All 4 were
illegals working at the construction site. Another construction
worker was arrested bringing the total to 5 illegals. The 4 that ran away
recognized the car of the authorities.


Every citizen of Aruba is obliged to carry a special government issued ID
card at all times that shows the legal status of the person on the island.
Authorities are allowed to ask a person for the ID card for status check.
Not having the ID card and being legal on the island results in a fine.
